UPDATE: The second trailer for the Super Mario Bros sequel will be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit today during the Super Bowl.
The goal of the game is to save Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) with the assistance of the powerful Princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson.
Returning characters include Mario (Chris Pratt),Luigi (Charlie Day), Bowser (Jack Black), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and Kamek (Kevin Michael Richardson). Benny Safdie voices Bowser Jr.
The sequel’s release date is April 3, 2026, via Universal. That’s the U.S. date and select territories. The pic hits Japan on April 24, 2026 with select offshore territories opening throughout April.
Super Mario Bros Movie, released in 2023, is the third highest grossing animated movie ever at the global box office with $1.36 billion. The movie opened over Easter and posted the second best 3-day for the holiday at $166.4M stateside behind Batman v. Superman ($181M). Deadline exclusively reported that the movie netted $559M in profit after all downstream revenues.

Voice cast additions revealed this morning include Brie Larson, who will voice Princess Rosalina, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.
Returning the wildly popular and enduring video game franchise to the big screen, the sequel was announced in March 2024. It’s based on the 2007 Nintendo game Super Mario Galaxy.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The movie is being co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed theatrically worldwide by Universal.
Chris Melendandri and Shigeru Miyamoto, Representative Director, Fellow of Nintendo, are producing.
