EXCLUSIVE: Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired world sales rights to Ugly Cry, the psychological thriller from writer-director Emily Robinson (Eighth Grade), which is set to world premiere at SXSW in the festival’s Narrative Spotlight section. The company will present the film at the EFM.
Robinson also stars in the film, which follows an actor who spirals down a “dark and dangerous path to perfection when they lose their dream role because of their ugly cry.”
Ugly Cry co-stars Ryan Simpkins (Fear Street: 1978), Aaron Domínguez (Only Murders in the Building), and Robin Tunney (The Craft, The Mentalist). Andrew Leeds (Barry), Heather Morris (Glee), Chalia La Tour (The Good Fight), Ray Abruzzo (The Sopranos), Sophie Von Haselberg (Give Me Pity, American Love Story), Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within), and Melinda McGraw (Mad Men) round out the ensemble cast.
The film is produced by Sophia Sabella, Pablo Feldman, and Jolene Mendes of More Avenue (Edge of Everything), with Rhianon Jones and Tristan Scott-Behrends (Dead Lover) of Neon Heart Productions. Debbie von Ahrens, Jim Robinson, Kyle Campbell of Campbell Capital Management, Troy Press, Bella Appel, Darci Price, and Galileo Mondol are executive producers.
