Whether it’s an ode to Mother Nature or a tribute to an indie rock band, Hollywood continues to introduce us to the most unusual celebrity baby names out there.
And on Tuesday, Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara added a new entry into the adventurous canon when they announced the birth of their daughter, Mikey Moon Trainor.
They certainly aren’t the only celebs to opt for a unique name for their kids. Just take Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost, who named their son Cosmo. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s first son is called RZA, in honor of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA, and their second child is named Riot Rose. Meanwhile, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker welcomed baby Rocky into the world last November.
Then there’s Elon Musk. In his biography written by Walter Isaacson, Elon Musk revealed that he and Grimes’s third child is called Techno Mechanicus, or “Tau” for short, joining a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl, whom they call “Y,” and their son, X Æ A-Xii (formerly X Æ A-12), who goes by “X”.

Ryan Reynolds revealed the name of his and Blake Lively’s youngest child at the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine. In a speech, he sent love to his children James, Inez, Betty, and Olin. Although the public knew the name of the three eldest, it was the first time Lively and Reynolds shared the name of their fourth, who was born in 2023.
Techno Mechanicus, Exa Dark Sideræl, and X Æ A-Xii
Rumored to be inspired by the Warhammer 40000 game, Techno Mechanicus seems to be the most conventional of the three, though trying to pronounce it is a little anxiety-inducing.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Grimes explains that Exa is a reference to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS, and Dark alludes to the unknown. “People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photos. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe,” Grimes says. Sideræl—pronounced sigh-deer-ee-el—is a nod to the Lord of the Rings character Galadriel and “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space, not our relative earth time.”
