A 16-Year-Old Girl Disappears
On August 18, 2001, 16-year-old Melissa Klahn disappeared in Tucson, Arizona.
She had moved to the area from Nogales and was staying at a duplex rented by a man named Luis P. Figueroa. But Melissa’s life in Tucson had become complicated. According to her mother, Patricia Klahn, Melissa had been living with her 26-year-old boyfriend, Jose Hector Silva, but the relationship had ended.
There was still something Melissa needed from him.

On the day she disappeared, Melissa was trying to retrieve the bird. Her mother later recalled seeing her on August 18.

His refusal to speak does not establish that he was involved in Melissa’s disappearance, and no such connection has been proven.
Another Death, Years Later
More than two decades after Melissa vanished, Jose Silva’s name appeared in another serious criminal case.
In January 2025, he was charged in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Ashley Cervantes. Prosecutors alleged that Silva knocked Cervantes from the back of his motorcycle on Interstate 19 and then left the scene.
According to the information provided for this case, Silva was convicted of negligent homicide in September 2026.
That later case is separate from Melissa’s disappearance, and there is no established evidence presented here linking the two.
